Private Hypnotherapy Sessions

Well now it’s been on Oprah [May 13, 2008], medicine is finally using it [although this grows slowly], science is exploring it, and most importantly the individual person is using it to make changes in his or her life. I’m talking about the use of hypnosis. The ability to enter into the imagination and focus deeply is a trait every single human being has. Nobody can own it but yourself. And nobody can tell you whether you have the right to use your own mind but yourself. Better still nobody can cause you to be hypnotized against your will [as in the Manchurian Candidate and poorly informed Hollywood movies]. It’s your imagination, your subconscious – and your choice. The most a qualified hypnotist can do is know protocols to guide you in what you want to do. In short you, and you alone, empower yourself to make a change, develop better or even investigate consciousness further.

Now that the efficacy of hypnosis is becoming known [and of course it has been around since the beginning of time] vested interests which previously disregarded it and even disparaged it are attempting to control it through law and even fear tactics. The plain facts are – 1] hypnosis has no side effects [unlike most drugs] 2] the use of your own hypnosis to help your self is your human right.

Hypnosis, hypnotherapy, separate from stage entertainment is developing as its own profession. As such it has all the growing pains that chiropractors, psychologists, massage therapists, dentists, and even medical doctors have experienced when they defined themselves as separate professional organizations. One might say we are on the ‘wild frontier’ in our development as a profession. One thing to remember though is that hypnosis is not new. It was used in ancient Egypt. It was brought into public knowledge again by Anton Mesmer M.D. [who for his time was a highly respected doctor and from whom we have the word ‘mesmerize’]. It has been fought for by brave medical doctors [who saw their careers damaged when they supported it because of the great benefits their patients experienced]. And gradually people have realized, because this ability is in all of us, that they can use hypnosis all by themselves to make changes. Meditation is simply a lighter form of hypnosis. Any bookstore sells self-help books for a person to learn to hypnotize him/herself and even others.

So, you may ask, why use a Consulting Hypnotist [hypnotherapist]? I suppose it’s much like being a better golfer, basketball player, pianist. There is only so much you can teach yourself. When you use a hypnotherapist they teach you more and help you use that learning. Any good hypnotist gives you the tools to do even more for yourself when you finish with that hypnotist.

It isn’t easy to find but there is quite effective education for hypnotherapists beyond the basic training. Europe [particularly Britain] provides extremely good education for hypnotists including college and university training]. Canada offers a little at one college in Alberta. United States offers training at some universities and legitimate online schools [much like Athabasca University in Canada]. Most Consulting hypnotists have a prior background in an area of specialization. Often nurses and social workers move into working with hypnosis. Educators also find their background skills work very well with hypnosis. And it’s the one area in which age is an asset. Life experience certainly helps the understanding of life experiences.

Hypnotherapists who do not have a medical background [or a mental health background] do not work with issues in these fields – unless given permission to do so by a professional in these areas. Even then a hypnotist is very selective about the issue to be helped. The goal is to help a client to success and being ill informed about the client’s issue isn’t help. Yet there are clients who come who have been told they ‘just have to live with it’ or that the doctor has done all that is possible. This is the choice of the client to explore another possibility. I have worked with clients like these in fibromyalgia and IBS and seen them change themselves for the better.

Mostly though, when a hypnotherapist doesn’t have a medical background, we deal with basic life issues. We deal with everyday stress and learning to eliminate or control them, we deal with the emotions causing binge eating and resolving them, we deal with learning ‘anything’ better, we deal with letting go of the past which may be poisoning a client’s present life, and yes – we deal with spiritual exploration. This form of hypnosis is called Transpersonal Hypnosis. It is not based on religion but is based on the concept that there is ‘something more – out there and in here’ and that with exploration we can find out about this and even help ourselves through this ‘finding out’..

This ‘something more’ is often referred to as the superconscious – beyond the subconscious. As a person trains themselves in hypnosis it can be accessed. Psychics seem to have the skill of entering it easily. Most people need a bit more practice than that. Of course entering this area brings up questions of belief and developing that belief further. It is so for both the hypnotist and the client. The superconscious certainly can be left entirely alone if either of the above don’t want this challenge. I like it when the client gives me permission to use all my tools to help make the change – but I always ask permission. Within this area are past life exploration and energy release protocols.

Clinical hypnosis is the form of hypnosis most used by clients and hypnotists. It makes marvelous changes. It is based entirely on the strength of the focus the client maintains. What the imagination allows itself to believe at the time informs the brain. And the brain makes the change. Clinical hypnosis is used for pain, stress, habit, fears and phobias, allergies, life conditions like pregnancy [childbirth and the 9 month side effects] and self-improvement [like learning and sports improvement]. The list continues. It makes it very interesting for myself because I never know the issues my clients may bring to me to change.

If you think of training your mind to do this you may also think of it as learning any skill. Playing music requires determination and practice – as does learning a sport, knitting, and riding a horse. Using your own inner mind is no different. When you begin using hypnosis it is like any learner mastering a new skill. The difference is that your expertise will develop very quickly. And it develops as you relax [deliberately] in both body and mind. It’s quite a pleasant experience this relaxing. As you master staying relaxed and keeping the focus of whatever it is you are doing you can talk, explore and explain. You can actually make things happen like pain ease, blood pressure move to normal, nervous reactions stop. Certainly within the superconscious you can amaze yourself [and help yourself] with your findings – findings that sometimes can be proven, many times can’t be, but somehow expand our sense of ourselves.

So in starting this adventure with Innisfree here are some of the basics:

Back to the ‘wild frontier’.

It’s important for you to take responsibility in your choice of Consulting hypnotist. That means learning about their background, years in practice, training [and length of it], ongoing training and reading, and associations which accept this hypnotist. There may even be facts about hypnosis and your issues which the hypnotist may be able to supply. I believe you should ask these questions, or be informed of the above when selecting a hypnotist or beginning work with the hypnotist you have selected.

So this is my information.

Feir Johnson was a teacher of 33 years before embarking on her second career as a hypnotherapist. She taught English, music – and thinking. As an enrichment teacher specializing in how people think, it was her job to teach children about their thinking, and teachers how to use many methods in order to engage the children’s minds. She became very involved in the study of consciousness through doing this work. She also saw the effect of music on the mind.

Upon retirement she continued her interest by taking training to be a hypnotherapist and continued this education by studying for, and attaining the degree of, Dr. of Clinical Hypnotherapy (Am.). Her doctoral thesis was upon Ericksonian techniques and their use in reinforcement hypnosis recordings.

She regards hypnosis as self-education to use your maximum inner resources.

Feir has a private practice in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

My Techniques

You will be fully informed about the techniques I use. I am trained in Clinical hypnotherapy (which is the standard suggestion format and visualization techniques), EFT, and Transpersonal hypnotherapy. I use the techniques that you feel most comfortable with. Sometimes you ask for all of them.

My Associations

I am a member of The National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) Am. - a world wide association with stringent requirements for entrance. I also belong to the International Medical and Dental Association (IMDHA) Am. I also belong to The National Association of Transpersonal Hypnotherapists.

Now there is the ‘meat and potatoes question.
How much does this cost?

Cost

Innisfree sessions can now be paid through PayPal on my website by credit card. Each individual session costs $130 + tax. This payment is per session not per hour. Session range from 1 to 2 hours in length.

Since most issues are 4 to 6 sessions a special discount has been given by paying ahead for 4 sessions. That cost will be $470 + tax. This is a saving of $50 to you. I accept cheques and cash payments if you prefer to pay that way.

If you are referred by your medical doctor these sessions can be claimed on your end of year taxes. If you are a business they can be claimed as a business expenses since I am also called a Motivational Coach.

Process

We can get right to your issue if we have already been dialoguing by email and you have received and filled out your intake form this way. Otherwise you fill out your intake form with me at the first session. In the first session [consultation] we will talk about your issue, then we’ll do hypnosis work with your imagination so I can see what stimulates it and the level of altered state you give yourself permission to move to. You will be given some instructions on what to do at home and training in EFT.

A session is followed by a reinforcement cd. The cd is 25-40 minutes long and best listened to before you go to sleep. For most issues a subliminal cd will be provided as well. this is for daily conscious listening and should be played often.

Each session is 11/2 to 2 hours long. I have spots for two clients per day, Tuesday through Friday, at 1:00 and 4:00 respectively.

I have a home treatment office separate from my house and behind it. Upon confirmation of your first appointment a map to my address is will be forwarded.

I look forward to meeting you.

An important quotation from Dave Elman – hypnosis trainer of doctors]

Elman response when this question was asked of him: I have heard that in several states laws are being formulated to stop the use of hypnosis by anyone but a qualified physician. What do you think of these projected laws?

You can’t outlaw the workings of the human mind. You can’t keep people from being suggestible, for this is a God-given attribute – nor can you prevent anyone from giving other people suggestions. In other words, you can’t enforce a law that is contrary to the laws of nature. Since we are all giving each other suggestions every day of our lives, sometimes without even realizing it, how can this be prevented? This is not always recognized as hypnosis but quite often that’s exactly what it is.

Dr. Camille J. Kolotylp
Fonthill, ON

For almost the past 25 years, I suffered with seasonal allergies to pollen as well as year-round allergies to cats. I hate needles, so shots were out of the question, so every year, I'd dope myself up on whatever over-the-counter allergy meds seemed to be popular that year and stumble through my summer. I found over time I couldn't eat meat or drink either, because that would make the symptoms worse - even when I was medicated. The months of May and September were NOT my friends.

When I asked Dr. Feir if hypnosis could work for allergies, I was amazed to hear that they could be gotten rid of easily. I immediately signed up for private consultations in the fall of 2006 and bought the CDs. After three weeks, I was "cured" - my symptoms were hardly present and when they were, I could easily identify what the emotional triggers were.

The week after my last session, I went to a party at a friend's house where they were two long-haired cats. I was also offered a scotch by my Scottish hosts - which I couldn't refuse ; )

Anyway, sitting at the party with a cat on my lap and a scotch in my hand, I realized that Dr. Feir's work with me was extremely successful.

In the spring of 2007, I had no allergy symptoms unless I was emotionally stressed. When I dealt with the stress, the symptoms went away. My wife commented she's got me back again. My work life improved immensely and I feel better than I have in years - allergy drug free for the first time in almost 25 years! Thanks Dr. Feir!
