The Stories in The Feel Good Kit are based on careful construction. They involve the child in the first person. The child is given the opportunity to release worries and to get involved with the hero of the stories – in this case two cats.

The first story - A Trip to Merlin's Castle - involves overcoming fear and obstacles, and celebrating the result. Because of the way the story is written, suggestions are imbedded for the child to feel good about him/herself – throughout.

Each listening reinforces the growth of self-esteem.

The object is for the child to hear the story several times. For this reason colouring pages are given. Two or three pages only can be coloured with each listening. The framed pages should be displayed in a place the child can easily see when listening without colouring.

Initial listening is called Eyes Open listening. This is colouring time and should be done quietly without interruption.

Eyes closed listening – is optional for eyes closed. Some children can keep their eyes shut and imagine for a long period of time. Others can’t. However relaxing ‘pretending’ suggestions are given at the beginning of the narration to help the child attain a meditative state mentally. [Children can often maintain this state with their eyes open.] The child who wants to keep his or her eyes open watches the displayed pictures while listening.
